Shakespeare Week in School?
- Invite leading Singaporean performance-poets/spoken word artists to write and perform complementary and contemporary poetic texts that will spin off from the themes of plays like Romeo and Juliet and Macbeth to amplify the underlying universal themes in Shakesperean dramatic texts.
- Our artists will also deploy current 'pop forms' of literature and interactive theatre to present the rhythm and poetry in Shakespeare original works.
- To promote the spoken poetry of Shakespeare as found in his plays and sonnets.
- To reveal the richness and complexity of the language of the Bard.
- To demonstrate how Shakespeare can be made even more engaging by utilizing choral elements and group performances.
- To demystify Shakespeare's works by juxtaposing it with contemporary ones
- To show how Shakespeare captures the range of human emotions in simple, yet profoundly eloquent verse that transcends time and culture.
