National Youth Poetry Slam League (NYPSL) Championship
Thanks to NYPSL, literally, thousands of students in Singapore are now writing, performing, and developing the craft of self-expression and confidence through Poetry Slam™
The inaugural NYPSL Championship was launched in 2006 by Word Forward Limited (the registered trademark holder of Poetry Slam™ in Singapore), with the support of MICA through its Creative Community, Singapore.
NYPSL is an annual competition open to all students who have attended Poetry Slam™ Coaching Clinic organised by the Founders, Word Forward. The coaching clinics are conducted by the poet-performers who are active members of the national and international poetry slam scene.
What is Poetry Slam™
Poetry slam is the competitive art of performance poetry. It puts a dual emphasis on writing and performance, encouraging poets to focus on what they say and how they are saying it. Poets compete over 3 rounds before an audience under a time limit of 3-min per poem. Each poem is judged immediately after it has been performed by five people picked randomly from the audience who award numerical values from zero to ten to each poem. The individual or group that scores the highest points wins the competition.
Poetry slam motto:
“the points are not the point, the point is poetry.”
